13 Broadway murals that deserve to be on your Instagram feed
Saskatoon is a cool little city with an artsy vibe, but nowhere is that more apparent than in the Broadway District. The coffee and treat options, the vibe, and the murals make it the perfect place to meet a friend for a walk and yes, to grab a pic together! My gf Joc and I went for a walk n snap, discovering the many colourful, Instagram-worthy spots just beside the main drag. Here are the Broadway murals that are deserving of a photo in your feed, too.
First up, behind Broadway Pharmacy! This is one of a few goodies in the area by Pineapples for Prime Minister.
You saw this mural every time you came up the Broadway bridge and although a new condo covers that view, you can still enjoy it with a walk. “So Much To Discover” by Denyse Klette features two of the artist’s own children.
These beautiful flowers behind Bill’s House of Flowers was painted by Lesia Karalash, who worked at the flower shop and perhaps still does.
“The Cheetah” is by Sean Vis, a local tattoo artist.
“The Broadway Collective” is by local artist, Kent Ness.
The lively aerosol mural titled “The Jam” (behind The Broadway Theatre) is by local artist Josh "Evak" Jacobson. It symbolizes the culture of music within the vibrant Broadway area.
Evak also did the rest of the artwork on the Broadway Theatre another summer.
This musical tribute on Production Lighting is by SCYAP.
The colourful blocks behind the Wanuskewin Gift Shop are by Jo Van through Alt Haus murals.
One of the murals I’ve known longest is on the apartments close to Prairie Sun. It’s called “A Greener Broadway” by M.R. Gaudet.
This mosaic was done by children from Ecole Victoria last year. (Joc and I are demonstrating the safest high five there is right now.)
On the back of the Broadway Roastery, you’ll find these colour blocks by the late artist, Douglas Taylor.
The paintings on the Broadway Roastery were commissioned by the landlord years ago. This is a heritage building so effort is taken to keep it aesthetically representing Broadway. Which it does. :)
Behind The Better Good, you’ll find solar panels up top and this super cool piece by Pineapples for Prime Minister.
Thanks so much to DeeAnn Mercier of the Broadway BID for SO MUCH mural information. I hope you’ll visit Broadway soon, grab a coffee at one of the many, many, many, many coffee shops and take a walk yourself. And make sure your phone is charged, you’ll want to grab a photo or two!
